Hugh Drummond is the senior vice president of marketing for O’Neill and Associates. In this senior leadership role, Mr. Drummond is responsible for planning and implementing marketing initiatives across all of the company’s practice areas, including public relations, crisis communications, federal and state government affairs, and community relations. He focuses on strategies to support business development and increase brand awareness for the firm’s expert staff and services. This includes positioning company executives, content marketing, social/digital engagement, internal communications, company advertising and events.
Mr. Drummond joined the public relations team at O’Neill and Associates in 2007 to provide strategic communications, crisis communications, and public relations services for large and small clients across several industry sectors, including aviation/transportation, community nonprofits, corporate, higher education, hospitality and technology. In his client work, he developed compelling messages and campaigns, helped clients navigate complex communications issues, and utilized a wide-range of communication tools to engage client audiences and achieve results. Mr. Drummond’s career experience includes roles in the technology sector, with nonprofits, the United States Senate and on state and national political campaigns.
Previously, Mr. Drummond was director of communications, marketing and state relations for the Massachusetts American Red Cross. He was a spokesperson for numerous Red Cross disaster relief operations, including Hurricane Katrina, the Danvers (MA) chemical plant explosion, and several major fires and weather-related emergencies. He also managed Red Cross crisis planning for the 2004 Democratic National Convention and for several multi-agency response drills. He was a member of the Red Cross rapid response PR team.
Mr. Drummond also served as a long-time aide to U.S. Senator Bill Bradley (NJ) and led scheduling and advance operations for Senator Bradley’s presidential campaign in 2000. He was deputy campaign manager for Massachusetts Senator Warren Tolman’s 2002 bid for governor. Mr. Drummond also held corporate relations and public relations roles in Silicon Valley and Seattle for technology companies, including NAVTEQ and Amdahl Corporation.
He is a graduate of DeSales University in Pennsylvania and was an Emerging Leaders Fellow at the Center for Collaborative Leadership at the University of Massachusetts-Boston.
